Science Junkie
First of all, a brief explanation. A technological singularity is a point, in the development of civilization, where the technological progress accelerates beyond a generation’s capacity to understand it.I think that, right now, some of us are living in a singularity. If I ask my grandparents to send me an email — to give just one example — they’ll call the nearest psychiatric hospital to put me away. To involve mankind as a whole, however, we have to implicate the concept of superintelligence. Obviously a superintelligence doesn’t exist now, but, for many futurologists, if we continue to work in certain areas of technology — artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, genetic engineering — it could develop and make the concept of singularity an actual issue, no longer a matter of history and science fiction.Further speculation here.
